San Jose: Sake San Jose Sake Benefit

Sake San Jose!

SAKE SAN JOSE!

Event Organiser’s Description:
Yu-Ai Kai’s Fifth Annual Sake San Jose event will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010. Last year, more than one thousand sake tasters embarked upon the streets of our historic Japantown San Jose for what has become one of the most anticipated fundraisers of the year. This year’s opening ceremony will feature a ceremonial cask-breaking and a lively performance by San Jose Taiko. More than twenty Japantown businesses will host a pouring station, where Yu-Ai Kai volunteers will offer samples of sake made both in Japan and domestically. Entertainment groups, such as Wesley Jazz Ensemble, Aunty Sandy’s Hula Group, and the Marimokai koto players will add to the evening’s festive atmosphere.

This event has come to mean different things to different people. To some, Sake San Jose offers a time to reconnect with old friends, while congo drums beat in the background. To others, it is an introduction to one of the three remaining Japantowns in the United States, a chance to taste fresh tofu and visit the manju shop. We hope that you will celebrate Sake San Jose with us and discover your reason to join us again next year.

All proceeds from this event will directly benefit the programs of Yu Ai-Kai Senior Services and its participants. Tickets are $40 if purchased before May 27, $50 on the day of the event, and available at Yu-Ai Kai, at participating businesses, or online at www.sakesanjose.com.
