Discover the art of sake in our new Sake for Wine Lovers tasting class, designed to bridge the worlds of wine and sake with a unique, palate-friendly experience. Perfect for wine enthusiasts curious about exploring Japan’s iconic beverage, this class highlights premium sakes chosen for their similarities to wine, such as crisp acidity, fruity aromatics, and complex umami profiles. Guided by a certified sake sommelier, participants will learn to identify flavor notes, appreciate the nuances of sake production, and find parallels with wine varietals they already love. Whether you’re a fan of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, or Champagne, this class will open your taste buds to a whole new realm of enjoyment with the most delicious craft sakes!

As always, this class will include a behind the scenes brewery tour to see how sake is made at NY State’s first sake brewery.

Meet your Teacher

Timothy Sullivan is the Director of Education and lead instructor for all classes at the Sake Studies Center at Brooklyn Kura. He has over 16 years of experience teaching about sake and in 2007, he was awarded the prestigious title of Sake Samurai by the Japan Sake Brewers Association. Timothy brings a wealth of knowledge as well as practical brewing experience to the classroom. Whether for sake beginners or for industry professionals, Timothy strives to make all his classes and tasting fun and engaging.
