Honolulu: Joto Sake at The Sake Shop
It’s Snowing at Honolulu’s Sake Shop!
EVENT ORGANIZER DESCRIPTION:
People often come in to The Sake Shop and ask us if we have a favorite sake. It’s always tough to answer this question because we don’t really have just “one†favorite sake. However, if I were to come up with a Top-5 list of my all-time favorite sake, Yuki no Bosha Akita Komachi Daiginjo would definitely be included!
Yuki no Bosha translates to “Cabin in the Snow†while Akita Komachi means “Beauty of Akita†and is both a reference to the fair ladies for which the region is known as well as the local rice of the same name. Crafted by the Saiya Brewery up North in Akita prefecture, this Daiginjo is very well balanced, with upfront notes of white pepper that fade into dried apricot and melon. They mill the rice down to a ridiculously small 35% of it’s original size.
For all you Nigori sake lovers out there we’ll also be sampling Yuki no Bosha Junmai Ginjo Nigori. It is an “usu nigori†or “light nigori,†containing less rice solids, or kasu. The brewery makes it light so you can really taste the sake. This nigori is bright, lively and fruity but finishes dry.
